Summary

The Director, Commercial Banking is responsible for defining and executing commercial portfolio growth strategies, delivering an exceptional client experience, managing a consultative sales process, and leading teams to support the credit unions focus on serving businesses. Responsible for developing new relationships and delivering an exceptional member experience consistent with the credit union’s commercial banking strategy.  Collaborates with credit and operations teams to ensure an exceptional member experience. This role will be based in-office out of our Crossroads location in Kansas City, MO.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for effective execution of the commercial sales process and achievement of goals for loan and deposit growth, member engagement, relationship profitability and portfolio quality.
  • Develops individual and team goals in line with organizational objectives. Motivates and leads team members to achieve goals for loan and deposit production, creates an exceptional member experience and ensures solid portfolio performance.
  • Generates new relationship opportunities from start-ups to large corporate entities through individual networking activities, community involvement and targeted business development activity.
  • Collaborates with credit and operations teams to ensure effective sales process execution. Works with all leaders to build and maintain a strong culture within the commercial banking.
  • Consults with business members, has an indepth knowledge of credit and knowledge of business loan structure, leads the team to produce high-quality loans. Manages relationships with borrowers to achieve loan portfolio performance objectives over time.  Serves as a trusted advisor to members and business owners.
  • Leads a team of commercial professionals to include recruiting, mentoring, developing individual skills, managing performance, and ensuring a positive culture experience. Develops employees to achieve their full potential.
  • Consults with members and potential members to identify needs, propose solutions, and identify opportunities that may exist, including recommendations for the development of new products and services.
  • Develops and maintains a strong partnership with branches and other business lines within the credit union (i.e. mortgage, wealth management) that result in referrals and an enhanced member experience.
  • Collaborates with credit and operations teams to ensure effective sales process execution. Works with all leaders to build and maintain a strong culture within the commercial banking.
  • Serve as a voting member of Commercial Loan Committee, exercising sound credit judgment and participating in discussions that lead to appropriate outcomes.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree

 

Required

Business, finance, accounting or related field of study

Advanced degree/certification

Preferred

Business, finance, accounting or related field of study

 

Banking/Credit Union experience

Required

10 years’ experience of diversified commercial lending experience, including both business development and credit with C&I, CRE and construction/development knowledge.

Leadership experience

Required

7+ years managing lenders and/or general bank management

 

 

 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with and knowledge of Commercial Banking products and services, including loans of all types, treasury management, private banking, etc.
  • Indepth knowledge of credit as evidenced by the ability to properly underwrite and structure commercial loans.
  • Ability to effectively lead a professional team of people.
  • Demonstrated large group presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations governing lending and accounting practices.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to prepare reports, develop and manage KPIs, analyze results and communicate results to management.
  • Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience with CRM software, such as SalesForce.
  • Experience originating loans using SBA 7(a) and 504 loan programs.
