GENERAL FUNCTIONS: 

The Mortgage Servicing Mortgage Insurance Specialist is responsible for managing all aspects of mortgage insurance (MI) within the servicing portfolio, including both private and government-backed insurance programs. This role ensures compliance with investor, insurer, and regulatory guidelines, oversees insurance premium payments, cancellations, and serves as a key resource for internal teams and borrowers regarding MI-related matters.

Duties & Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Maintain accurate records of mortgage insurance coverage for loans requiring PMI, FHA, VA, or USDA insurance.
  • Process MI premium payments and ensure timely remittance to insurers and government agencies.
  • Monitor MI cancellation eligibility and process borrower requests in accordance with investor and regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensure servicing practices align with investor guidelines (e.g., Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac) and regulatory requirements (e.g., CFPB, RESPA).
  • Prepare documentation and respond to internal and external audits related to mortgage insurance.
  • Generate and maintain reports on MI activity, cancellations, and compliance metrics.
  • Identify trends and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce risk.
  • Review, prioritize, and provide timely and accurate responses to tasks, emails, etc.
  • Analyze information on a situation, problem, loan or mortgagor, and make appropriate recommendations on actions.
  • Able to research, respond to and provide information to customers (internal and external) on mortgage insurance inquiries and research on related topics.
  • Adherence to established policies and procedures; assist in creating or amending assigned procedures immediately upon notification of change, addition or declination request.
  • Drive systems testing to validate data, identify gaps or illogical errors.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships by always providing high quality customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Promotes honest and open communication throughout the organization.
  • Demonstrate behaviors that are consistent with the credit union’s values, philosophies, and leadership characteristics.
  • Work with other credit union departments to ensure the workflow or process is providing the best service to the members.
  • Monitors safeguards to ensure the integrity of our client’s personal and financial data.
  • Willingness to perform other duties/projects as assigned.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of mortgage products.
  • Knowledge with mortgage servicing.
  • Knowledge of FHA, VA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and RESPA Guidelines.
  • Knowledge of mortgage software.
  • Proficient experience with Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and with strict deadlines.
  • Ability to self-initiate and work independently without close supervision.
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Ability to resolve interpersonal conflicts and miscommunications.
  • Knowledge of spreadsheet software and ability to use word processing software.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Must be able to be bonded.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

In this position, individual will be expected to lift up to 20 pounds from time to time.

Also, must be able to stoop, bend, reach, or stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to sit and use a computer for extended periods of time.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position is expected to work in general office environment. Overtime will be expected to be worked as needed.

 

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year mortgage servicing experience.
